This has been one of the longest weeks I have faced in a long time.
It started out Monday morning...Jr. made it to school but wasn't feeling very well. He made it through the day, though. Princess, however, had had a friend over for the weekend and they did some ice cream sundae making and eating and Princess didn't take her dairy aide (lactose intolerant) so Monday morning wasn't good...however, I got her 'fixed up' and off to school so she got in half a day.
Tuesday morning came and Jr. was vomiting his guts out. I got Princess off to school and made an appt. for Jr. at the Dr.'s. The doctor took his little light thingy and looked in those nasal cavities and such and said, "WOW! Now THAT'S a sinus infection!" Fluid in the ear, everything...so, after discussing it with the doctor he decided to give Jr. a 'jump start' and give him a shot. The surprise came when TWO nurses entered the room, each armed with a LLLOOOONNNNGGG syringe full of some kind of medicine...they held him back against the wall while they each shot him in a thigh. I even winced! All I heard was "OOOOOOUUUUUUUCCCCCCHHHHHH! ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch!!!!" They giggled and left. (I don't think my son will EVER be attracted to a nurse!) The doctor sent me home with a long list of meds to pick up at the pharmacy. He told me that Jr. needs to take is allergy meds just about ALL year round. He has an allergy to mold...he was at his friend Steven's 'new' house all weekend helping them paint and move things and fix the roof. Turns out (he told me AFTER the fact) that there is a room that was built on to join the house to the garage. The roof has apparantly leaked for a long time and they have to tear out the walls and roof and replace it all becuz it is mold infested. Jr. wasn't taking any allergy meds.
Wednesday...Jr. had slightly recovered...Dr.'s excuse from school.
Thursday...Princess had been up all night with vomiting and pains only a female would understand...no school for her. In the meantime Jr. was spending most of his time in the bathroom...no further explanation needed. Another call to the doctor and they suggested giving him doses of Robitussin DM (it is the only decongestant that will not react with his anxiety meds).
Friday...Princess is still nauseous and unable to sleep (she gets that from me...I have the same 'problem') and ORNERY!!! Jr. is left with all over intense body ache and looks like death warmed over.
Tuesday night was also interesting for me. My Technical Writing class...I walked in and was instantly hit with a mixed aroma of Axe and barn. The room was mostly full of young guys wearing jeans, t's and baseball caps. There was one table in the middle that had a couple of ppl my age sitting at it...that's where I went. Then as I sat there listening to the conversations around me, I understood the smell of 'barn'. These guys were all discussing how fast they could get their hay balers going in the field while still making a good bale of hay.
Then the 'teacher' came in and we had to introduce ourselves and tell what program we were in. The guy looks to be ABOUT my age. Arrogant sort. When I told him I was in HR Management he raised his eyebrows and said, "I don't hardly EVER get any HR ppl in here! Welcome!" Already I had a bad feeling. He went down through the list of topics that we would discuss...when he got to 'resumes' he looked at me and asked me if I had anything to share on the subject. It turned out that I ended up being the lesson. When the questions stopped he said, "Okay...we can mark that off the list now. It's been discussed." Thanks. Do I get compensated for that?
I still have more work to do in my classes. Most of it reading. yeah. I just want to relax this weekend, do some of my reading, get my kids back on track, watch some college football and maybe sneak in some Tribe baseball...breathe.
Next week is a new week...I told the kids they can begin again. It will all work out.
I know I've said this before, but...I will not be around much. My classes start today...and with 4 classes, just looking at my work load is kinda freakin' me out!
Plus, the kids' transition back to public school is not exactly smooth. They both like being there but we've had a couple little problems already. I need time to concentrate on my studies and give them the attention they need right now.
One of my classes only runs 8 weeks...all that means is double work for 8 weeks.
Oh, well. It will all work out. Everyone keep in touch...and maybe I'll be able to peek in at the end of each week.
It always reminds me of my short quarter I spent at a 'Christian' college in Canton, Ohio. I made some really great friends there. One friend was Kristin. She was tall, bleached out blonde, and always up for something fun...
I had my old orange Vega hatchback...she was sans transportation. We would make 'runs' on the weekends when we were some of the misfortunate ones to be stuck on campus. The girls on the floor of my dorm would pile in and we would hit crap food row...Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell...then we would come back to the dorm, pop some popcorn and put all the food out on the small table in the middle of the 'lounge' on our floor, get in our PJ's put on some music and have our own party!
One weekend Kristin wasn't getting up...I checked on her and she was having some problems. She started crying and told me that she had been engaged to an older guy before she came to this college...she got pregnant and he took her to get an abortion...two weeks before college started. She never had proper healing time and she was sick...her parents didn't know and she was afraid if the college administration found out that she would be thrown out. I took her to a clinic to get checked out and taken care of. I also advised her to let her parents know becuz she just needed to be taken care of. She stayed in bed over the weekend and played 'flu' with the school clinic so she could be excused from classes for a few more days. Her roommate (another funny girl...Mary...loved Mary!) and I kinda made sure she didn't have to get out of bed.
But when Kristin got better, she would ask me to just go driving once in a while. She and I LOVED this Quarterflash song. We would sing it at the top of our lungs...Kristin was a definite alto and I would take the top...we harmonized really well.
Kristin and I both left the 'Christian' college after that one quarter...I went to Kent State and roomed with my friend Jackie and she went home. She let me know the next fall she had met and married a really great guy with two wee little girls. She loved little kids...and I know she was a great mom!
