Donut Throw Down a Challenge in Front of Me!

Can I uncross my fingers now?

Two days in a row...the kids went off to school. TJ had to go to the doc's after school and get ANOTHER double antibiotic shot. Supposedly this should be his last one.

I am doing pretty good myself...I enjoyed my class last night. It was short, though (thank GAWD!)...which is why I probably enjoyed it. I took a box of donuts and placed them on the table in front of the Presenter. Everyone laughed. He asked me what those were for...

"you told me last week the newest student had to bring the donuts!"

"that's right! You told her that!"

"How much did those cost you?" he laughed as he reached for his wallet. I shrugged. "Well, you HAD to pay for them!" "Who said?" They laughed again. After class he followed me down the hall holding the box and waving a 5 at me. I told him he had better put his money away before someone got the wrong idea! He turned red, laughed and stuck the 5 in his pocket. I told him that he really shouldn't challenge me. He said he found out something new.

We have to take turns next week doing a class discussion...research, present it in front of the class...and get a discussion going from it. Considering the broohaha I got going on the discussion board with my last paper (which won my team ALL the points available btw) I will have to try and out do myself on that. Challenges...challenges...

Well, it is back to the vacuuming and dusting and spraying of the allergen reducer. And tomorrow...The Lawn.

ALWAYS a challenge.

In Order to Form a More Perfect...UNION?

Okay...while doing research for one of my labor union class papers I came across this thing (below).  I kept waiting for the punchline as I read it...but, then, just becuz I don't take MY blog seriously, I guess, I just fall beyond the sphere of comprehension for such a thing.  I want to make it known right now...if the Blogstream organizes a union...I'm outta here.  I'm not paying dues, I'm not going to attend meetings, I am not signing a contract with blogging rules, etc.....SHEESH!

Bloggers consider forming labor union

CHICAGO — Do bloggers need their own Norma Rae?

In a move that might make some people scratch their heads, a loosely formed coalition of left-leaning bloggers are trying to band together to form a labor union they hope will help them receive health insurance, conduct collective bargaining or even set professional standards.

The effort is an extension of the blogosphere's growing power and presence, especially within the political realm, and for many, evokes memories of the early labor organization of freelance writers in the early 1980s.

Organizers hope a bloggers' labor group will not only showcase the growing professionalism of the Web-based writers, but also the importance of their roles in candidates' campaigns.

"I think people have just gotten to the point where people outside the blogosphere understand the value of what it is that we do on the progressive side," said Susie Madrak, the author of Suburban Guerilla, who is active in the union campaign. "And I think they feel a little more entitled to ask for something now."

But just what that something is may be hard to say.

In a world as diverse, vocal and unwieldy as the blogosphere, there's no consensus about what type of organization is needed and who should be included. Some argue for a free-standing association for activist bloggers while others suggest a guild open to any blogger — from knitting fans to video gamers — that could be created within established labor groups.

Others see a blogger coalition as a way to find health insurance discounts, fight for press credentials or even establish guidelines for dealing with advertising and presenting data on page views.

"It would raise the professionalism," said Leslie Robinson, a writer at ColoradoConfidential.com. "Maybe we could get more jobs, bona fide jobs."

But not everyone is on board.

"The reason I like blogging is that it's very anarchistic. I can do whatever I want whenever I want, and oh my God, you're not going to tell me what to do," said Curt Hopkins, the founder of the Committee to Protect Bloggers.

"The blogosphere is such a weird term and such a weird idea. It's anyone who wants to do it," Hopkins said. "There's absolutely no commonality there. How will they find a commonality to go on? I think it's doomed to failure on any sort of large scale."

About 11% of American Internet users have created Web pages or blogs for others and 8% have created blogs for others, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project.

With pages focused on everything from bird watching to celebrity footwear, more than 120,000 blogs are created every day and more than 58,000 new posts are made each hour, according to data from Technorati, which tracks more than 94 million blogs worldwide.

Few bloggers are paid for their posts, and even fewer are able to make a living doing the work. But many say they often devote as much energy and time to their online musings as they do to their salaried careers.

While bloggers work to organize their own labor movement, their growing numbers are already being courted by some unions.

"Bloggers are on our radar screen right now for approaching and recruiting into the union," said Gerry Colby, president of the National Writers Union, a local of the United Auto Workers. "We're trying to develop strategies to reach bloggers and encourage them to join."

Unsurprisingly, there's decidedly less support for a union movement among conservative bloggers.

Mark Noonan, an editor at Blogs for Bush and a senior writer at GOP Bloggers, said he worries that a blogger union would undermine the freewheeling nature of the blogosphere, regardless of its political composition.

"We just go out there and write what is on our mind, damn the critics," he said. "To make a union is to start to provide a firm structure for the blogosphere and that would merely make the blogosphere a junior-league (mainstream media). ... Get us a union and other 'professional' organizations and we'll start to be conformist and we'll start to be just another special interest."

But that's not how Kirsten Burgard sees it.

Sitting at a panel titled "A Union for Bloggers: It's Time to Organize" at this week's YearlyKos Convention for bloggers in Chicago, Burgard said she'd welcome a chance to join a unionized blogging community.

"I sure would like to have that union bug on my website," said Burgard, a blogger who uses the moniker Bendy Girl.

Madrak hopes that regardless the form, the labor movement ultimately will help bloggers pay for medical bills. It's important, she said, because some bloggers can spend hours a day tethered to computers as they update their websites.

"Blogging is very intense — physically, mentally," she said. "You're constantly scanning for news. You're constantly trying to come up with information that you think will mobilize your readers. In the meantime, you're sitting at a computer and your ass is getting wider and your arm and neck and shoulder are wearing out because you're constantly using a mouse."

This Post is REALLY happening on Tuesday Night...Not Wednesday

Another day in paradise....

Altho my daughter began her day with her head over the porcelain facility...it was only this morning. She slept A LOT but I also fed her yogurt and sugar free pudding and pepto. She was doing better. I also e-mailed each of her teachers who were all kind enough to forward some of her homework. I had to discuss with her what to collect when I went to the school to invade her locker. The woman in the office is always so sweet to me and seemed genuinly concerned for Bethany's health. There really wasn't much to collect or for her to do. She got what she needed for a research project off the computer...I did her math lesson with her and she finished that all up...and a few other odds and ends.

TJ didn't make it to school A-GAIN. But he has impressed his teachers with his ability to catch up on a week's worth of work in about 2 days time. He's doing well. He had some work to do for his American Legal Systems class. He is given some trial cases and asked questions about his opinions and basis for his answers, etc. He discussed some of one of the cases with me...gave me his take on it...I gave him my take on it...we discussed our opinions with each other and he typed up his case studies. He really LIKES his American Legal Systems class.

His head plugged up last night...no air passage and his head began pounding...making him nauseous. He woke up this morning feeling worse. He wanted another shot of antibiotics. This is a major thing for him to ASK to get a shot since he has a major problem with needles. So, I called the doctor and had to take him in. He got the two shot treatment and the PA told me that it was even stronger stuff. The doctor gave orders for TJ to come in after school Thursday and get more of the same. They are trying to get this thing knocked out of him and he is willing to go through the shots just to feel better. AND I discovered why his head filled up to near explosion the way it did...he drove home from school MOnday with the windows down in his car. I told him with the mold spore count off the charts the way it is (and he has a BAD reaction to mold) that what he did was the worst thing he COULD do.

I, on the other hand, have been popping decongestants and echinacea pills...and tonight I just curled up on the couch with an ice pack. My head...my ear...oh the inhumanity of it all. I e-mailed my profs and told them I would not be there. I just couldn't muster the effort. Besides, if they gave me a REASON to WANT to put forth the effort, I would. It just isn't worth my effort to sit there in class feeling like death warmed over when all they do is regurgitate the same crap in my book and add nothing to it OR, like my Tech Writing 'presenter'...just sit there and ramble about whatever comes into his slightly over ripe melon of a head. Last week I had to endure the whole whine about his daughter's wedding that happened over the weekend. I DON'T CARE! You are WASTING my time AND my money! Yes, I am not feeling well...I am ornery. Just stay out of my path.

Never mind me...today is just one of them days...and I am kinda enjoying the 'dizzy'!

While Jr. got off to school okay...he was still late...even THO I warned him about the fog...he got stuck in backed up traffic a wee bit more than half way to school...but he got there...no problems getting him out the door...other than dragon feet.

Little Darling...on the other hand...is spewing her lungs out into the porcelain facility today. Good thing I cleaned the bathroom last night.

Troy packed his bags and got out of dodge. Chicken!

I think I will just sit and spin in my puter chair for a wee bit longer before I get down to bi'ness. After all...I have plenty of classwork and housework to do. But...it ain't goin' no wheres.

Frustration and Upset is Good for My Home

yep...you read the title right. I was so upset with myself over my 'C' that I got busy. I took EVERYTHING out of the fridge, sorted, tossed, and scrubbed! And I do mean SCRUBBED! I also cleaned two of the bathrooms. I warned everyone to find their sunglasses.

You open the fridge and the glare from the light will blind ya!

Before heading off to bed my son stood in the doorway of the puter room and said, "It is good to be catching up on my work. I talked to most of my teachers Friday and they didn't seem upset with me. So, I guess it will be okay. I have a lot to do, yet, but it isn't so bad." I told him that it would be okay...he just needed to find out for himself. I also reminded him that he has been out a lot, school just started and his teachers don't know what kind of person he is. If he shows them that he is a smart, ambitious person then they will be happy to work with him. The only person in that school that has been a beotch is the school nurse. I just told him to make sure to NOT have to see her anymore.

We will see how tomorrow goes. I have a date...with the vacuum cleaner! I also have a date with some more homework...some puter research for two classes and some reading and quiz taking for another class. Talk about catching up!

Oh...and will someone remind me that I have to take some donuts for class Wednesday night?
