Online Classes Can Be a REAL Pain

There is something just not right here...

I had a test scheduled in my online Comp. and Benefits class a few weeks ago. I studied and felt about as ready as I could be...sat down at my computer, logged into the college class, brought up the test, read the first question....and...zap...it disappeared and this message came up and said that the assessment had already been taken! I logged out and back in...a few times...same message. It said I could check my answers...so, I clicked the OK button and a message came up that told me the assessment had NOT been taken. OF COURSE it hadn't been taken! Tell that other page! So I e-mailed the 'presenter' right away. I didn't hear from him. I kept checking my available tests and quizzes and it didn't show up. It was also the week I was sicker than a dog. I e-mailed him two days later. Still nothing. I waited two more days then sent him a nasty e-mail. He responded to that (surprise) and told me he had put it back in my list on Monday (it is now Thursday). I told him I had checked both Monday AND Tuesday and hadn't seen it. But I'd check again...I did...not there. I sent him another e-mail Friday morning and told him it STILL wasn't there and it hadnt' been there all week. If he didn't put it up so I could take it he could just give me and 'A'. So, Saturday afternoon he sends me an e-mail to let me know he put it back up for me. So, I did all my other homework that was due first...for all my classes...so that I didn't fall any farther behind for them, THEN tried to take that Test 2 again.

I logged in, brought up the test, began to read it and...!@#$#%@#%@$^#@ the SAME thing happened! I couldn't believe it! So, I e-mailed him right away again! I offered to go to the campus library and take a paper copy test. He e-mailed me back tonight and told me he put it back online for me to take and I have two days to take it...AND he is going to deduct 10 points becuz the test is almost 3 weeks old.

Did he get a nasty e-mail? YOU THINK?!?!?! UN-FREAKIN believable! I told him that he will have to subtract the points from the computer...and did I need to remind him that I had to hound him for a week the first time to get the test put back online for me in the first place? !@$%$^%^@%@#$@#$Q@#%@#^Y#^Q#@$%Q@#$Q@#%@#%&^$%J*JJ@#$Q@#$@#$ Do I seem a bit upset?

Please pardon my out bursts. I am just waiting to run into this guy in the hallway when I am attending one of my campus classes. I know what he looks like...don't think I wouldn't think about causing him some bodily harm...just think about it though. I can think up some pretty good scenarios.

Other than that...life is just sunshine and marshmallows.

You Know It Had to Happen...My Sat. Nite Entertainment

Yep, it was time for Scrawny to earn her nuts!

I just find it so cool that animals can learn what they do...but it is rather limited on my part to think they can't.

For instance, I was sitting in the kitchen studying at the table when I looked out and saw Scrawny on the squirrel feeder looking around for food...it was empty and there weren't any walnuts on the porch. So I got up and walked to the window in the back door just as she hopped down and was looking in the grass. She had her back to me when I tapped on the window. She sat up straight, then quickly turned around, saw me in the window and leaped up on the porch, and ran to the door and waited. I opened the door and tossed her a walnut. She grabbed it and jumped down under the bush and waited while I filled her feeder and left her a pile of walnuts on the floor.

She is the best kind of 'pet'. I only give her food...don't have to walk her, bathe her, or worry who is going to take care of her if we are gone for a while.

 Hey, Teacher...Leave Them Kids Alone!

I was watching this 'report' on Nickalodeon channel with my daughter. It had to do with homework. And this one teacher gets it...ONE teacher...something that I have alway believed...

Kids need time to be kids...do things like sports...hang out with their friends...and teachers need to do the work in class. This teacher is a highschool teacher. He doesn't believe in giving homework. He believes in working hard in the classroom...with the students...to make sure they get it and class time is used for learning...what a concept.

Most teachers 'present' the new concept...go over it quickly, then assign homework. The students are on their own. I have seen my kids bring home what amounted to 'busy work'. My thing is this...if the student learned the concept then they don't need to repeat it 50 million times on a piece of paper. If they didn't learn it then all homework is going to do is 1) make them frustrated; 2) support the wrong way of doing it...they just keep repeating the wrong thing over and over...which defeats the whole purpose!

Yes, concepts need to be ingrained. BUT, by using the first few minutes of every class to go over previous concepts to make sure they are really 'learned', then there would not be a 'need' for kids to have to do it on their own...over and over...every night after school. AND by working with the kids in class...actually getting out from the behind the desk and diligently going from student to student and working with them...then the teacher can be sure that the kids are understanding things AND they can catch any wrong behavior/understanding that the students are doing and correct it.

I am not saying that homework is TOTALLY unnecessary...sometimes they need to do some reading at home or some extra research on their own. All I'm saying is...piling it on for AFTER school is not necessary. I hardly EVER had a kid leave my room toting homework.

 Here's to January!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic I'm with ya Scrawny!
And it is only beginning. At least we get an extra hour of time Sunday morning. I need the extra hour NOW! This is going to be a long haul from now until January...when everyone is too tired to bother you. And no one expects anything. I was planning on taking 4 more classes next semester but I really don't want to. Am I being lazy? Maybe. After all, with a wee bit of diligence I could probably test out of the computer classes and then I would have only ONE class that I would HAVE to take. The fourth class was just an extra that I found interesting. International Human Resources. But since I don't plan on going international...why bother? I was hoping to be able to find time to go up to my parents' this weekend. Apparently my mom has not been real forthcoming with me about my dad's health...and it would be becuz she thinks I have enuff to handle. But a call from my oldest sister last night gave me reason to be alarmed. Of course, I don't REALLY know how he is...you see, my sister was enebriated...like she sometimes gets...and then everything is a drama times 10. I just saw my dad a month ago and he didn't seem too bad. I know they are going to run a bunch of tests on him next week. He could have a possible blockage in his corotid artery...which I've been after him for YEARS about. Of course, if the doctor tells you it isn't there...what are you to do? I go for the whole stamp you foot and throw a hissy fit routine. It has worked for me so far. You know...when the temps are in the low 90's most of the summer and the air is too thick to hardly be able to breathe...AND you are 73 (?) years old...you shouldn't be outside putting vinyl siding on your house by yourself for hours everyday. He can't get the concept that his body is aging and he needs to take it easy. Plus he did some reroofing on one section of their house...and my mom with all her back problems was right out there lifting and hauling. I guess they are doing life as they like it. We all have to go sometime and they like to be busy in a physical/productive kind of way. They had thot at one point that when my dad retired they would take a motorhome and go travel and hang out with other older ppl in those vacation parks...they tried it...once...went to Florida and spent a few months. They came back home and sold the motorhome. My mom said it wasn't her cup of tea. And dad said he didn't have the patience to drive 'that thing' anymore. Oh, well. We all had fun when us kids were younger. Many family vacation trips to Florida...a few across the states to California and back...taking in the sites and sounds and smells...I got to tease my siblings...we made our parents laugh. And the most fun was Dad steering that thing up an interstate in Georgia trying to outrun a twister! good times...good times...
